Mamita was the first of the Monte-Calvario feral cat colony to be trapped, but not the first to be caught, since she escaped her trap twice! She was a familiar fixture on w162nd street, quietly sitting on the sidewalk or on the wall of the Morris-Jumel Mansion yard, her creamy butterscotch colored fur seemed to glow in the dark.

RIP, dear Mamita

Lately because of the DOT redesign of an  adjacent intersection,  cars and trucks have been speeding down 162nd st.

This week, a driver of an SUV ran over and killed Mamita as she crossed a street she had always known as quiet and safe.

We will miss you Mamita.  And we sincerely hope that there are no other injuries or fatalities on w162nd street.
